Known only from fossilized skulls until the discovery of live animals in 1954, the Pygmy Killer Whale can be found in deep waters throughout tropical and subtropical areas of the world. In the United States, the resides primarily in the waters of Hawaii, Northern Gulf of Mexico and the Western North Atlantic, but not in aquariums. Long before Blackfish protests of keeping Killer Whales in captivity, trainers and aquarists learned to avoid keeping Pygmy Killer Whales in captivity for a more basic reason: the animals attacked and killed any other animal in their habitat.
